Inaugurated in 2008, this hotel has 2000 rooms and 28 floors, and is owned by the Sol Kerzner company. Its design was inspired by the Atlantis Paradise hotel in the Bahamas.

Its architectural structure is based on two towers connected by a bridge, with two large monorail stations, known as a transport that moves on a rail to move people or goods.

This monorail is the one that allows the connection of the whole complex in general of the resort, with all the main sections located in Palm Jumeirah; which should be highlighted as part of a set of three artificial islands in the shape of palm trees, located on the shores of Jumerirah in Dubai.

As mentioned above, this hotel has a 16-hectare water park, a conference centre and some other spaces that can be purchased privately.

The Kingdom of Sweden is a beautiful Scandinavian country located in Northern Europe and is considered to be the fifth largest country in this continent.

Although, as is well known, it does not have any tropical paradises like many of those known so far, it does have a hotel with underwater facilities, identified as Utter Inn and which we will be talking about in this section.

This magnificent hotel is located on Lake Mälaren, close to the city of Stockholm, and was inaugurated during the year 2000. It is said to be the only hotel in Sweden that has a room three metres under water, with two beds and a table, as well as several windows that offer a breathtaking view of the lake’s interior.

Despite its lack of luxury, the experience is said to be worth it, as it is submerged about three metres in the lake, but offers panoramic views in all directions.

The hotel was designed by local artist Mikael Genberg, who also designed the Manta Resort in Zanzibar. The Utter Inn Hotel in Sweden is an ideal place to spend a weekend, especially for those who love the cold.

It also has a platform created with the purpose of sunbathing, admiring all the nature around and feeling as if you were on board a ship, with the possibility of going down to the room to lie down and feel surrounded by the incredible species of Lake Mälaren, which on the other hand has fresh water that is then poured into the Baltic Sea.

 

Jules Undersea Lodge – USA

Changing continents, we now move to the United States to meet the next representative of underwater hotels; we are talking about the Jules Undersea Lodge, a famous American underwater hotel located in Key Largo, a region belonging to Florida.

There are four such hotels in the world, but the Jules Undersea Lodge is the only underwater hotel in the United States; it was practically born as part of an underwater research laboratory.

Curiously, the name of this prestigious hotel honours the author of “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea”, where his room, later divided, is considered the oldest of this type of underwater dormitory.

It is generally said that the hotel has only two independent bedrooms within a common area, but has a capacity of only about six people, although each of these accommodations has huge glass windows from which you can observe the wonderful marine fauna.

The only difficulty with this hotel is the time it takes to get there, which requires diving, so it is highly recommended for lovers of this sport. It also has all the amenities offered by other common hotels.

By way of general information, it should be noted that it is not a luxury hotel, since its two rooms are built around a steel and acrylic cabin measuring approximately 6 by 15 metres, which is submerged at a depth of approximately nine metres.

But with the exception that its security is specially controlled from the mainland in order to guarantee the integrity of these facilities and to provide the guests with all the services they require.

Poseidon Undersea Resorts was created as an underwater hotel, originally scheduled to open in 2008. The Water Discus Hotel – Dubai

Dubai is a city that forms part of the United Arab Emirates and, as we have seen, is characterised by the presence of mega-buildings, especially hotels, many of which have broken records in terms of both height and luxury.

Their future plans include the construction of the world’s first underwater hotel, which they have named the Water Discus Hotel.

Its design will be based on three strong legs anchored in the depths to act as supports and connected to two huge discs, the first above the water and the second below.

The submerged part will have 21 rooms, offering the most spectacular views of the fauna of the Persian Gulf, while lying on comfortable beds.

It is reported that the construction of this project is in the hands of the company Drydocks World, and it is expected to be launched as soon as possible, giving many people the opportunity to explore the depths of the sea while sipping a delicious coffee on a comfortable sofa.

This will certainly be a different kind of underwater hotel, with a structure that resembles a spaceship, and it is said to have all the comforts of a large luxury hotel, with an innovative bar and even a diving centre.
