Map of the River Cuarto

The River Cuarto flows through the southern centre of the province of Cordoba. The source of this river is located to the east of the Sierras de Cordoba, in its tributary the Sierra de Comechingones.

In its upper course, the River Cuarto is called Río de Las Barrancas, it flows into several streams, the most important of which is Piedras Blancas, and after flowing into the foothills it is called River Cuarto (see River Tigre).

The river leaves the sierras and flows through the plains of the Pampa Húmeda (humid pampas), continuing southeast and reaching a tectonic depression called the Bañados del Saladillo or Loboy. When it leaves the marshes, the river takes the name of Saladillo and continues to the northeast, joining the Tercero River and quickly becoming the Carcarañá River in the town of Saladillo.

With a length of 400 km, the Cuarto River flows from the Sierra de Comechingones into the Paraná River. And it belongs to the hydrographic basin of the River Plata.
